Under its ISO 14001 accreditation Remploy Building Products operates to the highest standards of environmental management.

The company has achieved the coveted Energy Efficiency award and has entered into a voluntary commitment with the government to recycle a percentage of post-consumer products. This includes the removal of existing PVC-u, timber and aluminium windows and doors, which are then re-cycled and the bi-products returned to the wider supply chain.

The pressure on landfill availability and the increasing costs of disposal means this is a major benefit to social housing providers, who can now recycle many waste materials from the refurbishment of their housing stock.

Much is said about the impact of PVC-u on the environment. Summarising the European Commission’s Lifecycle Assessment of PVC-u and competing materials, it concludes:

“……………the most promising potential for lowering environmental impacts is expected through the optimization of design. Therefore the choice of materials is of rather minor importance, as long as it can provide the required system quality of the window…”
